Mike Buntyn
Director of Choral Activities
Mike Buntyn is in his twenty-sixth year of teaching choral music and his tenth year as the Director of Choral Activities at Lebanon Trail High School (LTHS). Under his direction, the Lebanon Trail Choirs have consistently achieved superior ratings at UIL Competitions, the North Texas Madrigal Festival, and other choral festivals. Additionally, the contemporary a cappella group he founded, VOLT, has been invited to the Quarterfinals of the International Competition of High School A Cappella (ICHSA). He is frequently sought after as an adjudicator and clinician throughout Texas. He has been an active member of the Texas Music Adjudicators Association for UIL Concert and Sightreading Assessments since 2013.
Mr. Buntyn holds a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Lamar University and a Bachelor of Music Education from Louisiana State University. Before his current role, he served as Department Head and Choir Director at Ereckson Middle School in Allen for 12 years, and as Choir Director at Lake Highlands Junior High for 4 years.
Mr. Buntyn's leadership extends to professional organizations. He recently served as the Vocal Division Chair for TMEA Region 24 from 2018-2020 and previously as the Vocal Coordinator for TMEA Region 25 from 2014-2016. Before his tenure at Lebanon Trail High School, he directed the Allen Symphony Chorus and served as the Director of Music at Wellspring United Methodist Church.
Mr. Buntyn resides in Plano with his wife, Kimberly, a business owner, and their children: Jacob, a Senior at the University of North Texas; Henry, a Junior at Lebanon Trail; and Emma, a sixth grader at Metroplex Academy.
